Mezza Forma Series
The Mezza Forma series explores the moment a form is interrupted—caught between completion and collapse. Each piece is shaped through a deliberate imbalance, where traditional glassblowing techniques are pushed just beyond their point of control. The result is a collection of vessels that feel both familiar and unresolved: functional objects that carry the tension of their making.
Handblown at Studio Dokola, Mezza Forma pieces embrace variation. Subtle shifts in weight, proportion, and surface are not flaws but records of process—evidence of heat, gravity, and timing. The forms often appear partially formed or compressed, as though paused mid-transformation, inviting a closer reading of how glass behaves in motion.
Balancing utility with sculptural presence, the series sits between tableware and object. Whether used or simply held in space, each piece reflects Dokola’s broader interest in reworking historical technique through a contemporary, process-led lens.
To jog your memory, the Mezza Forma series was created by hammering steel moulds. It was a way to step outside of the glassblowing studio and work in a separate state of mind. It used a certain ability with the art of hammering steel sheets into mould forms, and the illustrative outline of the forms is a result of the metal pulling out of shape. As I worked on one side, it would pull the other, constantly influenced. The series is characterised by its dappled, ice-like surface and wavering lip lines.
Each Mezza Forma piece is individually handblown and should be treated with care.
Hand wash only with warm water and mild detergent
Avoid sudden temperature changes (do not pour boiling liquids into cold glass)
Not suitable for dishwasher or microwave use
Store with space between objects to prevent contact damage
